Acute effect of a resistance exercise session on markers of cartilage breakdown and inflammation in women with rheumatoid arthritis
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Nov 08, 2017
Pinto ACPN, et al. - In this study, researchers analyzed the acute changes in the circulating biomarkers of cartilage breakdown and inflammation in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) subsequent to their participation in resistance exercise (RE) session. Following an RE session, similar changes in levels of inflammation biomarkers, but not of cartilage breakdown, were noted in women with and without RA. Furthermore, a rise in interleukin (IL)-10 and IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) was evident post-RE session, indicating that RE may have an acute anti-inflammatory effect.
