Acute and chronic pain in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy: Prevalence, interference, and management

Ostojic K, et al. - Through a cross-sectional study using the Faces Pain Scale-Revised, Patient Reporting Outcomes Measurement Information System Pediatric Pain Interference Scale, and the Cerebral Palsy Quality of Life questionnaire, of individuals (N = 280) with cerebral palsy (CP) aged 5-18 years and their parent or caregiver, experts ascertained the predominance, interference, and management of acute and chronic pain among youth with CP who were attending outpatient rehabilitation services. For early recognition and intervention, routine screening for pain was concluded to be crucial. However, to address the biopsychosocial model of pain, multimodal interventions are required and it should be altered for all facilities throughout the CP spectrum.
