Acupuncture therapy in treating migraine: Results of a magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging study
Journal of Pain Research May 06, 2018
Gu T, et al. - In view of acupuncture’s proven efficacy as an alternative therapy for treating migraine, researchers sought to determine the possible neurochemical responses to acupuncture treatment. Using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging, biochemical levels, pre- and post-acupuncture treatment, were investigated. Findings revealed a significant increase in N-acetylaspartate/creatine in bilateral thalamus in migraine without aura after acupuncture treatment, which was significantly correlated with the headache intensity score. Brain biochemical changes underlying the effect of acupuncture treatment of migraine were thus demonstrated.
