Acupuncture of different treatment frequencies in knee osteoarthritis: A pilot randomised controlled trial
Pain Oct 27, 2020
Lin LL, Tu JF, Wang LQ, et al. - A pilot randomized controlled trial was designed to evaluate the role of acupuncture in different treatment frequencies in knee osteoarthritis. Researchers designed a 16-week randomized controlled trial (8-week treatment followed by 8-week follow-up) to assess the symptomatic improvement in patients with knee osteoarthritis on 3 sessions per week of acupuncture (TSWA) in comparison with 1 session per week of acupuncture (OSWA). In this study, 60 individuals were assigned randomly to either the TSWA or the OSWA group in a 1:1 ratio. In comparison with OSWA, TSWA immediately improved knee pain and dysfunction. Moreover, the advantage of TSWA persists throughout follow-up.
