Active surveillance outcomes in prostate cancer patients: The use of transperineal template-guided mapping biopsy for patient selection
World Journal of Urology Feb 07, 2020
MerrickEmail GS, Tennant A, Fiano R, et al. - Researchers sought to analyze active surveillance (AS) outcomes including overall survival (OS), freedom from distant metastases (FDM), freedom from therapeutic intervention (FTI), and quality of life (QOL) outcomes in prostate cancer individuals applying transperineal template-guided mapping biopsy (TTMB) for patient selection. In this study, 226 consecutive, prospectively evaluated prostate cancer individuals underwent TTMB for either low-grade prostate cancer or persistently elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and/or the presence of ASAP between April 2005 to January 2016. The advantage of TTMB for individual selection distinguishes a cohort of individuals unlikely to manifest biochemical or clinical progression and maintain a favorable quality of life within the confines of the follow-up of this research.
