Acid secretion and its relationship to esophageal reflux symptom in patients with subtotal gastrectomy

Oh HJ, et al. - In this study, the prevalence of esophageal reflux symptom after subtotal gastrectomy was examined in subtotal gastrectomy patients. In addition, the authors evaluated factors affecting esophageal reflux symptom among these patients. Observation revealed a common occurrence of esophageal reflux symptom in patients after subtotal gastrectomy, possibly due to anti-reflux-barrier impairment and preservation of acid secretory capacity following surgery. In managing postoperative esophageal reflux symptom, optimal acid suppression could be helpful.
