Achievement of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol targets in primary and secondary prevention: Analysis of a large real practice database in Italy
Atherosclerosis Apr 14, 2019
Presta V, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers assessed real-life low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goal attainment and factors predictive for predefined LDL-C therapeutic goals both in primary and secondary prevention. For this purpose, a large cohort of outpatients (aged 40–65 years), followed by general practitioners, cardiologists, and diabetologists in Italy, was examined. Participants were stratified based on the presence or absence of previous cardiovascular (CV) events, such as coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, or stroke/TIA. Findings revealed that LDL-C targets were poorly achieved despite high or very high SCORE risk and use of lipid lowering therapies.
