Accuracy of The Cancer Genome Atlas classification vs American Joint Committee on Cancer classification for prediction of metastasis in patients with uveal melanoma
JAMA Ophthalmology Mar 25, 2020
Mazloumi M, Vichitvejpaisal P, Dalvin LA, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study involving 642 patients [mean (SD) age was 58.0 (13.8) years], researchers examined the accuracy of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) classification for predicting uveal melanoma (UM)-related metastasis vs the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) classification. Individuals with UM treated with plaque radiotherapy at a tertiary referral center from October 1, 2008, to December 31, 2018, have been assessed. According to findings, TCGA classification offers precision that is superior to AJCC categories, subcategories, and stages for anticipating metastasis from UM. When genetic testing is available, the classification of TCGA may provide a more reliable way of identifying patients at high metastasis risk who may benefit from adjuvant therapy.
