Accuracy of mRNA HPV tests for triage of precursor lesions and cervical cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Oncology Jul 24, 2019
Macedo ACL, et al. - Researchers analyzed evidence from 61 eligible studies involving 29,674 patients identified through a search of electronic databases on Medline via Pubmed, Lilacs, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Grey literature, to assess the accuracy of the mRNA HPV (human papillomavirus) biomarker in cervical smears to detect cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2 or 3 and cervical cancer. They found no randomized studies and included observational studies comparing the mRNA HPV diagnostic test to a histopathology reference standard. Findings demonstrated the adequacy of the mRNA HPV assay as a tool for secondary cervical cancer screening.
