Accuracy of controlled attenuation parameter and liver stiffness measurement in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Dec 24, 2020

Mikolasevic I, Domislovic V, Klapan M, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional prospective study to assess the diagnostic accuracy of the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) and liver stiffness measurements (LSM) measured with either an M or XL probe against liver biopsy in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Participants in the study were 179 patients with NAFLD. In a multivariable linear regression model, significant predictors affecting LSM were fibrosis stage as a positive predictor and lobular inflammation as a negative predictor, with no significant influence after adjustment for CAP and probe type. CAP has been found to be an acceptable tool for the exclusion of advanced steatosis, whereas LSM is a successful non-invasive fibrosis exclusion marker.
