Accuracy of a staging system for prognosis of 5-year survival of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma who underwent chemoradiotherapy

JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery Sep 25, 2017

Huang CI, et al. - This research resolved to introduce a new staging system that combined the tumor and clinical characteristics of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The intent was to improve the accuracy of prognosis for patients with NPC. This new prognostic staging system reported a better accuracy of prognosis of survival than the routinely used American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) TNM staging system. Hence, it was found to be more beneficial in detecting the high-risk patients for more intense therapy and care.
