Accuracy and interobserver reliability of the simplified Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index vs the Hestia criteria for patients with pulmonary embolism
Academic Emergency Medicine Oct 13, 2018
Quezada CA, et al. – In this prospective cohort study, researchers evaluated and compared the accuracy and interobserver reliability of the simplified Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (sPESI) and the Hestia criteria for predicting short-term mortality in patients with pulmonary embolism (PE). Participants included 488 individuals (mean age, 69 years) with a diagnosis of PE from the emergency department. They found that the sPESI and the Hestia criteria were similar regarding risk classification determination and prognostic accuracy for 30-day mortality after PE. However, sPESI had greater interobserver reliability than the Hestia criteria.
