Accommodation and near visual function in children with albinism
Acta Ophthalmologica Feb 05, 2019
Karlen E, et al. - Investigators analyzed 22 children with albinism (median age 13.5 years) and 12 controls (median age 13 years) to assess if the accommodative response was typical or modified as compared to a reference group. They observed less accommodation to minus lens-blur and during sustained near viewing among kids with albinism. They noted a relation between higher visual acuity and a better accommodative response. They observed benefits from reading spectacles among children with albinism due to a combination of close habitual reading distance and poor accommodation. They did not consider the objective recording of accommodation crucial for a correct judgment of near visual function.
