ABO-incompatible kidney transplant outcomes: A meta-analysis
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Aug 12, 2018
de Weerd AE, et al. - Given ABO blood group–incompatible kidney transplantation has yielded noninferior outcomes in large cohort studies, researchers performed this meta-analysis to ascertain outcomes compared with center-matched ABO blood group–compatible control patients. They analyzed 26 studies, involving 1346 unique patients who were ABO-incompatible and 4943 ABO-compatible controls. These studies were identified from Embase, Medline, Cochrane, Web-of-Science, and Google Scholar and were assessed using Meta-analyses Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology study guidelines for observational studies and Newcastle Ottawa bias scale. Findings demonstrated good outcomes in ABO-incompatible kidney transplant recipients, however, these outcomes were inferior to center-matched ABO-compatible control patients.
