Abnormal responses to local esophageal food allergen injections in adult patients with eosinophilic esophagitis

Warners MJ, et al. – The experts undertook this study to examine whether an esophageal prick test (EPT), in which the esophageal mucosa was challenged by local injection of allergen extracts, could identify individuals with esophageal sensitization. They revealed that in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), esophageal mucosal food allergen injections induced acute and/or delayed responses, but not controls. The EPT warranted further exploration because it could guide elimination diets.
