Abnormal lymphocyte response after pediatric thermal injury is associated with adverse outcomes

Thakkar RK, et al. - Considering the association of severe thermal injuries with a profound inflammatory response, researchers sought for the utility of laboratory values to predict infections in pediatric burn patients. Data of patients aged 18 y and younger with at least 10% total body surface area burns from institutional burn database was analyzed. Findings suggested adverse outcomes, including increased infectious risk, in association with abnormal lymphocyte percentage at or after 72 h after burn injury.
