Abnormal irisin level in serum and endometrium is associated with metabolic dysfunction in polycystic ovary syndrome patients
Clinical Endocrinology Jul 13, 2018
Wang W, et al. - In this prospective study, the researchers explored the link between irisin and metabolic disorder in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). For the purpose of this investigation, 40 patients with PCOS and 30 patients without PCOS were recruited for in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). They observed that serum irisin level in PCOS patients was significantly reduced. As compared to non-obese PCOS patients, irisin level in obese PCOS patients was significantly lower. As compared to PCOS patients with normal blood lipid profile, irisin level in PCOS patients with dyslipidemia was significantly higher. In PCOS patients, serum irisin level was positively correlated with body fat rate, BAI, FPG, HOMA-IR. Body weight and HOMA-IR could predict the level of irisin in PCOS patients. In PCOS patients, the present findings enriched the knowledge about the role of irisin in metabolic dysfunction.
