Abnormal blood flow on transcranial duplex sonography predicts poor outcome after stroke thrombectomy

Stroke Oct 24, 2018

Kneihsl M, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for analyzing the clinical utility of transcranial duplex sonography (TCD) in the assessment of middle cerebral artery (MCA) blood flow after mechanical thrombectomy for anterior large vessel occlusion and its role in predicting prognosis. For this investigation, all ischemic stroke patients were identified who had undergone mechanical thrombectomy for anterior circulation large vessel occlusion from 2010 onwards. In a substantial proportion of patients with angiographically characterized successful mechanical thrombectomy of the anterior cerebral circulation, TCD shows abnormal middle cerebral artery hemodynamics. Findings suggested that such changes are related to poor short-term result.
