Ability of dual-energy CT to detect silicone gel breast implant rupture and nodal silicone spread
American Journal of Roentgenology Feb 24, 2019
Glazebrook KN, et al. - In this prospective study, researchers compared the performance of dual-energy CT (DECT) with that of breast MRI for detection of silicone gel breast implant rupture and nodal spread of silicone. For this investigation, they recruited consecutive patients with current or prior silicone gel implants and clinical suspicion of implant rupture or extra-capsular silicone. According to findings, DECT is similar to MRI in the detection of silicone gel implant rupture and the presence of silicone in regional lymph nodes and might be an alternative for patients who can not or do not want to undergo MRI.
