Abdominal ultrasound in the evaluation of acute diverticulitis: Preliminary results
Journal of the American College of Surgeons Oct 24, 2018
Zago M, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of contrast-enhanced abdominal CT (CEACT) and abdominal ultrasound (AUS) for the diagnosis and staging of acute diverticulitis (AD). Diagnosis and staging according to the modified Hinchey classification by Wasvary were done via performing AUD and thereafter CEACT on 42 of the 54 patients who were referred to the Emergency Department for the suspicion of AD. Outcomes support AUS as a reliable technique for the diagnosis and staging of AD. Further, it may contribute to saving time and resources and may avoid unnecessary radiation exposure in most patients.
