Acta Pediatrica Apr 15, 2019
Magnúsdóttir MB, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers obtained information on the diagnosis of abdominal pain and the needs of children with this condition for health care services. This investigation concentrated on patients visiting the Emergency Department of the Children's Hospital Iceland in 2010 with abdominal pain and any subsequent visits up to January 1, 2015. According to results, there were 11,340 Emergency Department visits in 2010 and 1414 abdominal pain visits were made by 1118 children. The majority with abdominal pain were girls, with an average age of 12 vs 10 years, and they were older than the boys. Non-specific abdominal pain, constipation and viral infections were the most common diagnoses. Overall, the investigators concluded that common reason for visits to the paediatric emergency room was abdominal pain and a third paid more than one visit.
