They performed a cross-sectional study of women, the majority of whom had HIV, and identified that greater visceral adipose tissue (VAT) mass was associated with increased carotid artery stiffness. On the other hand, greater subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) mass was observed to be associated with a reduced odds of prevalent carotid artery lesions.
