Abdominal aortic calcification score as a predictor of clinical outcome in peritoneal dialysis patients: A prospective cohort study
BMC Nephrology May 06, 2020
Ma D, Yan H, Yang X, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the role of abdominal aortic calcification score (AACS) in predicting major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) and mortality in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Enrollment of 292 patients was done; these comprised 160 males (54.8%) with mean age 57.1 ± 15.2 years and median PD duration 28.4 (IQR 12.0, 57.8) months. In these patients, AACS was noted to be linked with age, PD duration, cardiovascular disease and diabetes in PD patients. Based on the tertiles of AACS, categorization of patients was done. They observed significantly higher cumulative incidences of all-cause mortality and MACCE in the upper AACS tertile. In this study, independent predictive value of AACS was suggested for all-cause mortality and MACCE. Per findings, AACS seems to be a safe and feasible method to identify PD patients with adverse outcomes.
