Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair readmissions and disparities of socioeconomic status: A multistate analysis, 2007-2014
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia May 08, 2019
Perlstein MD, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of 92,028 patients from the State Inpatient Databases Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project who had abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair, researchers focused on the differences in perioperative AAA repair outcomes by patient sociodemographics. They reported significantly greater hospital readmissions for African American and Hispanic patients vs white patients 30 days post-AAA repair. The chances of readmissions were more in patients insured with Medicare or Medicaid vs those with private insurance. Lower socioeconomic status was identified as an independent risk factor for increased postoperative morbidity in AAA repair.
