International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry Apr 15, 2020
dos Santos BF, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to characterize the utilization of emergency visits (ED) for dental conditions among children and to examine demographic features influencing its use. A comprehensive review of records of all children between the ages of 1 and 17 who attended paediatric hospital ED service in Montreal, Canada for dental conditions over a ten-year period (2004–2013) was completed. During the study period, a total of 10,905 paediatric ED visits have been seen. The use of ED for dental conditions has increased in the last decade among pre-school children and was primarily due to caries-related dental problems. Owing to non-traumatic dental problems, females, teenagers and self‐referred children were more likely to undergo ED visits. For improving children's oral health condition, effective preventive strategies are required.
