A systematic review on the triggers and clinical features of type 2 myocardial infarction

Clinical Cardiology Jul 18, 2019

Wang G, et al. - By analyzing published peer-reviewed articles related to the triggers and clinical characteristics of type 2 myocardial infarction (T2MI), researchers tried to gain insight into the correlation between triggering factors, clinical features, diagnosis, and prognosis of patients with T2MI. These studies were identified from PubMed, Embase, and Medline and were published between January 2012 and August 2018. They followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. This analysis included retrospective cohort studies (n=7) and prospective cohort studies (n=7), with 3867 T2MI patients. Arrhythmia, particularly tachyarrhythmia, was identified as the principal trigger of T2MI, and most of the cases resulted from a single trigger. Two-trigger was identified as the most common form of multiple-trigger T2MI, which frequently happened in older patients with cardiovascular risk factors or comorbidities. In this study, the possibility of non-cardiovascular causes being the triggering factors was suggested, and a strong link of non-cardiovascular causes with the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of T2MI was also shown.
