A systematic review of prevention and treatment of infant behavioural sleep problems
Acta Pediatrica Jan 28, 2020
Reuter A, et al. - Via searching MEDLINE, Web of Science and PsychINFO in December 2017, researchers conducted this systematic review to assess the evidence for interventions for behavioral sleep problems in infants 0–24 months of age. The review covered controlled trials and meta-analyses with at least 20 infants in study groups evaluated according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation criteria. The synthesis comprised 12 studies out of 476 original articles evaluated for eligibility. According to results, massage studies have been of poor quality. Knowledge gaps have been identified in cross-cultural interventions involving fathers, children under the age of six months, high-risk populations and the consequences of interventions involving extinction. Some support has been found for short-term effects of behavioral treatment strategies but more studies are required to establish evidence.
