A systematic review comparing neurodevelopmental outcome in term infants with hypoxic and vascular brain injury with and without seizures
BMC Pediatrics May 05, 2018
De Haan TR, et al. - This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the possible impact of neonatal seizures on neurodevelopmental outcomes and if possible estimated a relative risk. As per the findings, for all cases with stroke or asphyxia combined the pooled risk ratio (RR) for the adverse outcome when suffering neonatal seizures was 7.42; for neonates with perinatal asphyxia: 8.41 and for neonates with stroke: 4.95. Results depicted that the presence of neonatal seizures in term newborns with vascular or hypoxic brain injury could influence or serve as a predictor of neurodevelopmental outcome.
