Spencer–Bonilla G, et al. – This study entailed the examination of the effect of social network interventions on social support, glycaemic control and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes. Irrespective of a compelling theoretical base, the value of interventions targeting patients social networks on diabetes care was minimally analyzed. The body of evidence to date was limited and based on individual behaviour change theories. Nevertheless, promising results were yielded. Obtained data challenged the scientific community to formulate an inspect theory–based interventions going beyond self–management approaches to focus on the largely untapped potential of social networks for improving diabetes care.
