A systematic review and meta-analysis of deep brain stimulation in treatment-resistant depression
Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry | Feb 16, 2018
Zhou C, et al. - In this systematic meta-analysis of deep brain stimulation (DBS) targeting all four reported brain regions including subcallosal cingulate gyrus (SCG), ventral capsule/ventral striatum (VC/VS), medial forebrain bundle (MFB), and nucleus accumbens (NAcc) in treatment-resistant depression (TRD), researchers explored the antidepressant effects of DBS for TRD. Findings revealed significant alleviation of depressive symptoms with DBS in TRD patients. During DBS therapy, they recognized several adverse events (AEs), although it remained unclear if some AEs could be linked to DBS treatment.
