A systematic review and meta-analysis of caudate lobectomy for treatment of hilar cholangiocarcinoma
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Jan 24, 2020
Birgin E, et al. – Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of eight studies on caudate lobectomy for treatment of hilar cholangiocarcinoma. Specifically, they reviewed current evidence on perioperative and long-term outcomes of routine caudate lobe resection (CLR) for surgical treatment of hilar cholangiocarcinoma (CCC). Overall, they observed a correlation between CLR, enhanced long-term survival, and negative tumor margins after resection of hilar CCC, with no unfavorable impact on perioperative outcomes. According to findings, CLR may have potential for becoming a standard-of-care procedure in the surgical management of hilar CCC.
