A strategy for prevention of fungal infections in lung transplantation: Role of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid galactomannan and fungal culture
The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation Mar 01, 2018
Husain S, et al. - In this study, a bronchoalveolar lavage fungal culture and galactomannan based strategy was examined for prevention of invasive aspergillosis in lung transplant recipients. Findings suggested a significant decline in the risk of invasive aspergillosis using a bronchoalveolar lavage culture and galactomannan directed pre-emptive approach. The approach allowed a 50% reduction in antifungal exposure compared to a universal prophylaxis approach, without affecting mortality at one year.
