A six-year retrospective analysis of endoscopic ultrasonography-guided pancreatic ductal interventions at a tertiary referral center
Digestive Endoscopy Aug 13, 2019
Dalal A, et al. - Because endoscopic ultrasonography guided pancreatic ductal intervention (EUS-PDI) acts as rescue therapy in patients who had a retrograde pancreatic duct (PD) access failure at the time of endoscopic retrograde pancreatography (ERP), researchers in this retrospective study sought to review their experience for this procedure. The study sample consisted of patients who had EUS-PDI for an unsuccessful ERP and altered anatomy. In total, 44 patients had EUS-PDI with a mean age of 43.5 years. In patients with unsuccessful ERP, EUS-PDI is an effective treatment modality and salvage therapy. The technical and clinical success of this study is comparable to worldwide studies. Abdominal pain, pancreatitis, fever, minor bleed, and stripping of wire were reported adverse events. The cost-effectiveness of EUS-PDI must be demonstrated in future research.
