A single oral dose of cannabidiol did not reduce upper limb tremor in patients with essential tremor
Parkinsonism & Related Disorders Jan 15, 2021
de Alencar SS, Crippa JAS, Brito MCM, et al. - Researchers undertook this randomized, controlled, double-blind, crossover study to determine if one acute dose of cannabidiol (CBD) would decrease tremors in patients suffering from essential tremor (ET). Participants included 10 men and 9 women, with a mean 63 years of age, and a mean 23 years of having the disease where the usual pharmacological therapy resulted in insufficient control of their tremors. They received a single 300mg oral dose of CBD or placebo in two experimental sessions conducted 2 weeks apart. Findings showed no significant impact of a single 300mg oral dose of CBD on severity of upper limb tremors in ET patients. The possibility that a therapeutic effect could be conferred by chronic treatment with CBD was not excluded.
