A single low dose of hydrocortisone enhances cognitive functioning in HIV-infected women
AIDS Sep 04, 2018
Rubin LH, et al. - Via performing a double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study, researchers examined the time-dependent effects of a single low-dose administration of hydrocortisone (10 mg oral) on cognition in 36 HIV-infected women. Findings indicated the extended benefits from 30 min to 4 h of a single administration of LDH on learning and delayed memory in HIV-infected women. This suggests a potential clinical utility of targeting the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis in these women. In contrast, improved learning only at the 30-min assessment was noted in HIV-infected men.
