A single institution experience with laparoscopic hernia repair in 791 children
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Feb 28, 2021
Svetanoff WJ, Fraser JA, Briggs KB, et al. - Many techniques have been described for performing laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in children. Researchers here reported their outcomes using a percutaneous internal ring suturing technique that involved hydro-dissection of the peritoneum, percutaneous suture passage, and cauterization of the peritoneum in the sac prior to high ligation. They retrospectively reviewed the patients under 18 years old who underwent repair. They included 791 patients. Based on outcomes, they support using percutaneous internal ring suturing for laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernias in the pediatric population. They identified this procedure as safe and effective with a low rate of complications and recurrence.
