A single-centre evaluation of the diagnostic accuracy of multiparametric MRI against transperineal prostate mapping biopsy: An analysis of men with bengin histology and insignificant cancer following TRUS biopsy
The Journal of Urology Mar 01, 2018
Pal RP, et al. - The researchers aimed to gauge the performance of transrectal-ultrasound guided biopsy (TRUSB) and multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) for the detection of prostate cancer (CaP) against transperineal prostate mapping biopsy (TPM) as the reference test. When compared to TRUSB, mpMRI was noted to be more accurate diagnostic test. Nonetheless, a notable proportion of ISUP Grade group 2 prostate cancer (CaP) remained undetected after mpMRI. While unnecessary biopsy in many cases with ISUP Grade group >3 CaP could be avoided by the use of mpMRI, at less stringent definitions for significant cancer a notable proportion of CaP could remain undetected after mpMRI.
