A scoring system to predict recurrence in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer
Clinical Otolaryngology Feb 16, 2019
Lopez-Bru D, et al. – In this retrospective cohort study (1984-2016), authors assessed 200 individuals in order to develop a scoring system to predict the risk of recurrence in people with differentiated thyroid cancer. Main outcome measures included time-to-recurrence. They identified 55 participants with recurrent tumor during a mean follow-up of 9.3 years. They ruled out the predictive factors, follicular histology, T, N, and multifocality. The risk table had a C-statistic of 0.723, and the calibration was satisfactory. Overall, the developed instrument was able to quickly and very simply predict which patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma were at greater risk of recurrence.
