A risk-stratified comparison of high-risk findings in reduction mammoplasty
Annals of Plastic Surgery Jun 20, 2018
Dreifuss SE, et al. - Researchers aimed at stratifying high-risk breast lesions by relative risk of malignant progression. In addition, they compared the frequency of these findings in bilateral vs unilateral reduction mammoplasties. Findings suggested a higher incidence of high-risk lesions among patients undergoing unilateral reduction after oncologic resection compared with those undergoing bilateral reductions for macromastia. Despite comparison of incidental findings between these cohorts in other studies, no group has compared these incidental findings stratified by risk. Data highlighted the significance of pathologic analysis of reduction specimens for early detection of high-risk lesions.
