A risk score assessment tool for peripheral arterial disease in women: From the National Health And Nutrition Examination Survey
Clinical Cardiology Aug 03, 2018
Mansoor H, et al. - Researchers developed and validated a simple risk score to identify women with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), since complications are reduced with early detection. They identified women using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999-2004, who had data on ankle brachial index, which was then divided into development (70%) and validation (30%) groups. Results demonstrated that in women, a valid tool for risk prediction could be easily applied in routine clinical practice. They noted an independent association of age, body mass index, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, non-oral contraceptive pill usage, and parity with PAD.
