A retrospective study of the characteristics of patients with early-onset compared to adult-onset hidradenitis suppurativa
International Journal of Dermatology Apr 08, 2018
Dessinioti C, et al. - Researchers probed the relationship of early-onset hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), defined as before 17 years of age, with the clinical characteristics age, gender, body mass index (BMI), smoking, family history of HS, Hurley stage, and the number of areas affected. They noted early-onset HS to be frequent and related to a family history of HS. The severity of HS did not differ in adult life for patients with early onset vs adult-onset, which could be reassuring information for these younger patients. Experts did not find any association between the early-onset HS and gender, BMI, Hurley stage and the number of body areas affected, but it was seen less often in smokers.
