A retrospective comparison of thoracic epidural infusion and multimodal analgesia protocol for pain management following the minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum
Paediatric Anaesthesia Nov 06, 2017
Man JY, et al. - This retrospective entails a comparison between patients who underwent minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum and managed with either a comprehensive multimodal analgesic protocol that standardizes perioperative analgesic management or with a thoracic epidural infusion. Analysis of postoperative opioid consumption, pain scores, and length of stay revealed that postoperative implementation of a standardized comprehensive multimodal analgesic protocol afforded equivalent analgesia with a modest attenuation in length of stay when compared to thoracic epidural. Also, an opioid sparing effect was not observed in thoracic epidural which may reflect technique variability.
