A retrospective comparison of survivors and non-survivors of massive pulmonary embolism receiving veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support
Resuscitation Nov 14, 2017
George B, et al. - This project was planned to analyze extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)-treated patients with massive pulmonary embolism (PE) at an academic medical center and report short-term mortality outcomes. In massive PE, ECMO was practically utilized to reserve it in patients with the greatest benefit. In this work, the practical approach of utilizing ECMO for massive PE was to reserve it for those who would receive the greatest benefit. The findings suggest that a serum lactate > 6 mmol/L could be an indicator of worse prognosis. Finally, researchers combined catheter-directed thrombolytics effectively with ECMO in their patient population.
