A retrospective cohort study on pretreated neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and prognosis of small cell lung cancer: Evidence of effect modification by chemotherapy regimen
Cancer Management and Research Oct 21, 2020
Liu F, Zhou S, Tan L, et al. - In small cell lung cancer (SCLC), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been described as an independent risk factor for progression-free survival and overall survival (OS), so researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study among a total of 251 patients with SCLC to examine if there is a linear relationship between the NLR and the risk of death in SCLC. Findings support that for OS in SCLC, NLR is an independent risk factor and there is a linear correlation between them. Every unit rise in NLR was correlated with a 10% rise in mortality risk in multivariate analysis. Better long-term outcome was observed in patients with low NLR in correlation with administration of etoposide plus cisplatin (EP) regimen vs etoposide plus carboplatin (EC) regimen, while in patients with high NLR, administration of the EC regimen resulted in longer OS than that of the EP regimen.
