A retrospective cohort study of predictors and interventions that influence cooperation with mask induction in children

Marquez JL, Wang E, Rodriguez ST, et al. - Researchers undertook this retrospective analysis of patients 2 ‐11 years old and ASA class I‐IV who underwent mask induction, to determine patient characteristics related to cooperative mask inductions as well as to investigate if preoperative interventions were related to increased cooperation. The main outcome was cooperation with mask induction, which was correlated against the Induction Compliance Checklist. According to the findings, the only patient characteristic that was related to increased cooperation with mask induction was increasing age. Experts also noted that the only intervention related to improved cooperation was preoperative intervention by a Child Life Specialists.
