A randomized trial of a long-acting depot corticosteroid vs dexamethasone to prevent headache recurrence among patients with acute migraine who are discharged from an Emergency Department
Annals of Emergency Medicine Nov 23, 2018
Latev A, et al. - In this randomized, blinded clinical trial, researchers compared intravenous metoclopramide 10 mg plus intramuscular dexamethasone 10 mg with intravenous metoclopramide 10 mg plus intramuscular methylprednisolone acetate 160 mg for patients presenting to two different emergency departments with moderate or severe migraine. Dexamethasone was administered to 109 patients and methylprednisolone acetate to 111 patients. Findings revealed no decrease in frequency of post emergency department discharge headache days with methylprednisolone acetate vs dexamethasone administration.
