A randomized study of four different types of tympanostomy ventilation tubes: Full-term follow-up
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Feb 11, 2018
Knutsson J, et al. - The effect of tympanostomy ventilation tube material (silicone vs fluoroplastic) and shape (short vs long) regarding time to extrusion, an occurrence of otorrhea, occlusion, tube removal and occurrence of persistent perforation was analyzed among children scheduled for bilateral tube insertion. Data indicated that long tubes displayed a lesser tendency to extrude early. Least propensity to extrude early was displayed with the long Armstrong tubes. As per findings, silicone tubes rendered considerably longer time to first infection. Donaldson tubes gave rise to least infections. It was reported that infection did not prominently impact the extrusion rates.
