A randomized study evaluating the effectiveness of oseltamivir initiated at the time of hospital admission in adults hospitalized with influenza-associated lower respiratory tract infections
Clinical Infectious Diseases Aug 21, 2018
Ramirez J, et al. - Whether or not the outcomes of hospitalized patients with influenza-associated lower respiratory tract infections (I-LRTIs) were improved by early empiric anti-influenza therapy was investigated via a randomized, unblinded, trial of adult patients hospitalized with I-LRTIs in Kentucky during 2009–2012. Researchers randomized 1,107 patients to either standard of care (group A with 556 patients) or standard of care plus oseltamivir as early as possible, but within 24 hours of enrollment (group B with 551). Outcomes revealed no reduction in clinical failures these patients in association with oseltamivir initiation more than 5 days after illness onset.
