A randomized pilot study to compare hair follicle cell suspensions prepared using trypsin alone vs trypsin in combination with collagenase type-I for transplantation in vitiligo
Clinical and Experimental Dermatology Aug 03, 2019
Vashisht KR, Arava SK, Tembhre MK, et al. - In this randomized pilot study involving 22 stable vitiligo patients, researchers contrasted the re-pigmentation achieved using trypsin and collagenase + trypsin, respectively, with dermabrasion alone. In addition, they compared cell counts, viability and composition of both suspensions. By adding collagenase, there was a significant increase in cell-yield and comparable viability. Adding collagenase resulted in considerably higher re-pigmentation than dermabrasion alone. The findings show enhanced retrieval of pigment-forming cells and later enhanced vitiligo re-pigmentation by integrating collagenase type-I into the conventional non-cultured extracted hair follicle outer root sheath cell suspension technique.
