A randomized, open, controlled trial of tretinoin 0.05% cream vs low-dose oral isotretinoin for the treatment of field cancerization
International Journal of Dermatology Feb 08, 2019
Ianhez M, et al. - Investigators estimated the data to analyze the clinical, histological (thickness of stratum corneum and epithelium), and immunohistochemical consequences of oral and topical retinoid for actinic keratoses (AKs) and field cancerization on face and upper extremities of immunocompetent cases, as well as the influence on quality of life, safety, and tolerability. They compared 10 mg/day oral isotretinoin (ISO) to 0.05% tretinoin cream (TRE) every other night, joined with sunscreen (SPF 60). They noticed a decrease in number of AKs, the thickness of stratum corneum, and expression of p53 and Bax with both the treatments. They observed improvement in the quality of life and well tolerance with minimal side effects in both therapies.
